Charlie Becht loves crafting stories featuring textured, complicated characters.

Like any typical fourth grader, Charlie Becht fell in love with stories. What’s different about Charlie Becht however, is that his love for stories persisted into adulthood, until one day, Ithaca College awarded him with the Rod Serling scholarship- a distinction awarded to filmmakers who demonstrate an excellence in storytelling.

As a gifted storyteller, Charlie has always had a strong sense of the types of stories he finds interesting: “I’ve had a love for storytelling since the 4th grade with a series titled Benzilla. (Think Clifford meets Godzilla.) While I’ve graduated to more complex narratives, I maintain that eccentricity and enthusiasm in all aspects of my work.”

This natural inclination to always create has has lead Charlie down many creative paths- from writer/director, to journalist, to production coordinator, to the host of a podcast dedicated to discussing prospective movie storylines called “Life’s A Pitch.”

A fan of shows like Parks and Rec, Insecure, and Big Little Lies, we couldn’t be more excited to work with Charlie- not only because his unique brand of storytelling is a major plus to our production schedule- but also, because we look forward to introducing him to the screenwriting mentors in our program, as a way to further promote, celebrate, and further develop his gifts as a storyteller.

While Charlie is currently devising the storyline of the film he’ll be shooting with HC&F, you can rest assured that it will be funny, highly interesting, and rich with character detail.
